VETERANS MUSIC VENTURE
BACKGROUND
In 2009, Ian Grace [Gold Coast Volunteer of The Year 2022] founded Youth Music Venture [Gold Coast Community Organisation of The Year 2022], to help with youth issues he observed when he moved from Brisbane.
Our Veterans:
Then in 2015 Ian found another cause to champion when he saw a Courier Mail article “Homeless heroes” regarding our returned Veterans! So, utilising his many years of experience and success contracted to the Federal Government's New Enterprise Incentive Scheme, he embarked on a mission to give Veterans the tools and opportunity to start their own businesses.
On the way he met Veteran Shaun Spain and they became good friends. Then in 2021, along with Veteran Daniel Smith, they appeared in the Gold Coast Bulletin, promoting Veteran owned businesses.
Also in 2021, Ian arranged for one of the young musicians to play a guitar version of the Last Post which Shaun and other Veterans loved and re-shared.
Shaun then donated a guitar to the young musician and in turn, he and his Youth Music Venture band, performing main stage at HOTA, dedicated a song to the Veterans and Shaun, a very emotional moment for him!
Tragically, Shaun took his life on the 7th of January 2023 and in his memory, Ian and the Youth Music Venture are honoured to launch Veterans Music Venture, a first in Australia, as a legacy for Shaun Spain, so his name lives on!
In honour of Veteran Shaun Spain
